Terms of Service
Pipette.bio ("Pipette") is an AI agent that converts your natural-language questions into bioinformatics code and runs that code on our compute to return analyses, figures, and result files. These Terms govern your use of Pipette. By creating an account or running an analysis, you agree to them.
1. How Pipette works, and what that means
A large language model reads your query and the files you upload, writes bash, Python, or R code, and executes it in an isolated container. The model can be wrong. The generated code can be wrong. The interpretation of results can be wrong.
You acknowledge that Pipette's output is probabilistic, that outputs for the same input can vary, and that nothing in the Service relieves you of the responsibility to review generated code, inspect intermediate files, and validate conclusions before using them in research, publication, or any external decision.
2. Your data
- You retain ownership of every file, dataset, query, and result you submit or produce ("Your Content").
- We process Your Content only to run the analyses you request, deliver results to you, operate billing, secure the platform, and meet our legal obligations.
- We do not use Your Content to train AI models, ours or third-party. We may compute aggregated, non-identifying operational metrics (e.g. queue depth, runtime, error rate) to improve the Service.
- Your query text and the conversation history of the active session are sent to our LLM provider for inference under enterprise no-training terms. Uploaded files are stored in our cloud storage buckets and streamed to compute workers that execute the generated code.
- Files are not attached to LLM prompts as documents, but when the agent runs code on your data, the code's output is sent back to the LLM as an observation, so excerpts of your files (sampled rows, column headers, computed values) can appear in the LLM context during an analysis.
- You are responsible for confirming you have the right to upload every file you upload, including any consents required from patients, collaborators, institutions, or data custodians.
3. What you must not upload or do
- No protected health information (PHI) or directly identifying patient data unless you have a signed data-processing agreement with us. Pipette is not offered under HIPAA.
- No data you are not legally permitted to process or share with a third-party compute platform.
- No use of Pipette to design, enhance, or analyze pathogens, toxins, or other agents intended to cause harm to humans, animals, plants, or ecosystems, nor to circumvent dual-use research controls.
- No attempts to extract other users' data, escape the worker sandbox, mine cryptocurrency, run unrelated workloads, exhaust shared resources, or bypass credit and rate limits.
- No reselling, sublicensing, or exposing Pipette as a hosted API to third parties without a separate written agreement.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section, and may preserve logs and artifacts relevant to an investigation.
4. Accounts
- You must be 18 or older, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction.
- One account per person. Do not share credentials. You are responsible for everything that happens under your account.
- Provide accurate registration information and keep it current.
5. Credits and billing
- Pipette is pay-as-you-go. Each analysis consumes credits based on LLM tokens and compute time; the current formula is displayed in-product and may change for future usage.
- Free credits may be granted monthly at our discretion and expire at the end of the billing period. Purchased credits do not expire.
- Payments are processed by our third-party payment provider. By purchasing, you authorize that provider to charge your payment method.
- Tasks that fail due to platform errors, out-of-memory events, or infrastructure timeouts are not charged. Tasks that fail because of user-supplied code errors, invalid input, or exhausted time budgets may be charged for resources actually consumed.
- Purchased credits are non-refundable once consumed. If you believe a charge is incorrect, email us within 30 days and we will review in good faith.
6. Communications
By creating an account you agree to receive transactional email from us (sign-up confirmation, billing receipts, job completion, security notices) and occasional product or marketing email from Pipette.bio. You can unsubscribe from marketing email at any time using the link in any such message. Transactional messages continue while your account is active.
7. Third-party services
Pipette depends on third parties, including our LLM provider, our cloud infrastructure provider, our payment processor, and public bioinformatics resources such as NCBI, Ensembl, GEO, and SRA. Your use of features that touch those services is subject to their terms, availability, and limits. We are not responsible for their content, uptime, or accuracy.
8. Intellectual property
Pipette, including its software, Skills, prompts, interface, documentation, and brand, is owned by Variome Analytics. We grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service for its intended purpose. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
You own the code the agent generates for your analyses and the results it produces, to the extent such output is copyrightable and to the extent we have rights to grant.
9. Availability and changes
We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may modify, add, or remove features, Skills, queues, models, and price schedules. Material changes that affect you will be announced in-product or by email.
10. Disclaimer
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE". WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, SCIENTIFIC ACCURACY, REPRODUCIBILITY, AND THE CORRECTNESS OF ANY AI-GENERATED OUTPUT. YOU USE PIPETTE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
11. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PIPETTE AND VARIOME ANALYTICS ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, NOR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA, LOST RESEARCH TIME, OR ANY COSTS OF SUBSTITUTE ANALYSES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE IS CAPPED AT THE GREATER OF (A) WHAT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR (B) USD 100.
12. Indemnification
You will indemnify and hold Pipette and Variome Analytics harmless from any third-party claim arising from Your Content, your use of the Service in breach of these Terms or applicable law, or your infringement of a third-party right.
13. Termination
You can stop using Pipette and close your account at any time. We can suspend or close your account if you breach these Terms, if we're required to, or if your use puts the platform or other users at risk. Sections that should survive termination (IP, disclaimers, liability, indemnification, governing law) do survive.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. Material updates will be announced in-product or emailed to your registered address. Continuing to use Pipette after the stated effective date means you accept the update.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of India, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Rajasthan, India, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.
